교회에 온라인으로 통제가 가능한 온도계를 설치했습니다. 그동안 전력을 절약하려고, 현장에서 켜고 껐었는데, 가장 힘들었던 것은, 겨울에 토요 새벽 기도회 준비였습니다. 새벽 4시 50분경에 교회에 도착해서 히터를 켜고 약 40분 후에 기도회를 시작하지만, 여전히 온도는 올라가지 않아서, 성도들은 파카를 입고 체온을 유지하고, 본인은 찬공기를 느끼면서 기도회를 진행했었습니다. 금요일 저녁에 온도를 어느 정도 맞추어 두는 방안도 있었지만, 그 밤 사이의 전력사용이 아까워서 그렇게 하지 않았습니다. 보통 새벽 2시 30분에 일어나서 기도회를 준비하니까, 집에서, 한 3시 30분쯤부터 온도를 높여 두면 추위를 덜 느끼면서 기도회를 진행하게 될 것이지요. 지금부터 기대가 됩니다. 이 감사한 일은 모두 하나님의 은혜로 이루어졌습니다. 성도 중 한 분의 아이디어와 BGE가 우리 교회에 무료설치를 결정한 것으로 이루어진 것이지요. 절실히 필요했지만, 재정적인 부담으로 한참 뒤로 미뤄두었던 일을 진행할 수 있었다는 사실에서, 연약한 우리 시온예배공동체를 향하신 성삼위 하나님의 신묘막측하신 은혜와 공급하심을 감사하며 고백하게 됩니다 (빌 4:19, “나의 하나님이 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 너희 모든 쓸 것을 채우시리라”).
We have recently installed internet-controllable smart thermostats in our church. Previously, in order to reduce church’s energy resources, we manually operated the thermostats on-site. This posed a significant challenge during our winter Saturday Dawn Prayer meetings. Arriving at 4:50 AM and turning on the heat left only 40 minutes before the meeting—insufficient time to warm the space. As a result, our congregation had to pray wrapped in their heavy coats, while I led the meeting in the cold air. Though adjusting the thermostats on Friday evening was an option, I refrained from doing so to avoid wasting energy overnight. Now, because I wake at 2:30 AM to prepare for the meeting, I can remotely raise the indoor temperature from home at 3:30 AM. By the time we gather, our space will be warm. We look forward to this new season. This outcome–for which we are grateful–is entirely the grace of God. It began with an idea from one of our members and came to fruition when BGE granted our church a full installation at no cost. Though this upgrade was desperately needed, financial constraints had forced us to postpone it for a long time. Seeing this need met reminds us to thankfully confess the unsearchable grace and provision of the Triune God for our fragile Zion Worship Community. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Phil. 4:19
