며칠 전 새 학기를 맞이하여 학교로 돌아가기 위해 집을 떠나기 전에 작은 아이가 남긴 말이 지금도 귓가에 울립니다. “아빠, 나 학교에 돌아가기 싫어. 나 여기에 계속 쭈욱 있을까? 정말 가기 싫어!” 이렇게 집에 꼭 남을 것 같았던 아이는, 툴툴 털고 다시 학교로 잘 돌아갔습니다. 그만큼 집이 좋고 편하다는 말이겠고, 가족과 있는 것이 제일 좋다는 말이겠지요. 또한 학교의 삶이 어렵고 힘들고 지치고 피곤하다는 의미일 것입니다. 그러나, 지난 몇 개월간 잘 회복하였으니, 다시 자신의 삶의 자리로 떠난 것이지요. 불현듯, 또 하나의 가족인 시온예배공동체가 떠올랐습니다. 한 믿음으로 성삼위 하나님을 예배하면서 찬양과 기도를 올리고, 말씀을 통해 회복되고 새 힘을 얻고, 음식을 나누면서 서로 위로와 격려를 나누는 가족이기에, 모일 때마다, 좋고 편하고 따뜻해서, 헤어지기 싫은 시온가족 말입니다. 물론, 삶의 현장이 어렵고 힘들고 지치고 피곤하기에 돌아가고 싶지 않지만, 함께 드린 예배와 함께 보냈던 친교를 통해 회복되어져서, 의연하게 그 자리로 나가는 그러한 시온가족 말입니다. 문득, 변화산에서 예수님의 영광스런 변화를 보고 그 자리가 너무 좋아서, 베드로가 했던 “여기 있는 것이 좋사오니” (막 9:5)가 떠오릅니다. “시온에 있는 것이 좋사오니!”
A few days ago, right before leaving home to return to school for the new semester, my younger child left me with words that still ring in my ears: “Dad, I don’t want to go back to school. Can I just stay here forever? I really don’t want to go!” Even though it sounded as if my child were going to stay home for sure, she brushed it off and returned to school well. Those words meant just how much she loves and feels comfortable at home, and how much she treasures being with family. It also reflects how difficult, exhausting, and wearying school life can be. Yet, having fully recharged over the past few months, she set out once again to her own place in life. Suddenly, I remembered another family: our Zion Worship Community. As a family that worships the Triune God in one faith, lifts up praise and prayer, finds restoration and new strength through His Word, and shares comfort and encouragement over meals—it is a Zion family that can feel so good, comfortable, and warm every time we gather that we never want to part ways. Of course, our places in daily life are difficult, exhausting, wearying, and making us hesitant to return. Yet, restored through the worship we offer and the fellowship we enjoy together, our Zion family courageously steps back out into those places. Suddenly, I remembered Peter’s words on the Mount of Transfiguration when he witnessed Jesus’ glorious transfiguration and felt so good that he said, “It is good for us to be here” (Mark 9:5). “It is good for us to be in Zion!”
