긴급한 시간을 지나셨던 선배 그리스도인들이자 우리 교회의 사랑하는 지체분들 세 분이 지난 1월부터 매 월에 한 분씩 하나님 아버지의 부르심을 받아 하나님 아버지의 품에 안기셨습니다. 사람이 태어나서 일정기간 삶을 살다가 삶을 마치는 것을 일반적으로 죽음이라고 부르지요. 그런데, 우리 그리스도인은 소천 즉, 하늘의 부름 정확하게는, 하나님의 부르심으로 부릅니다. 이 두 개의 다른 명칭의 의미는 하늘과 땅 차이보다 큽니다. 앞의 것은 끝이라는 의미가 강합니다. 이 땅에서 삶을 마치고, 그 생명이 다했다 또는 끝났다는 의미이기 때문입니다. 그러나, 뒤의 것은 새로운 상태 또는 단계를 의미합니다. 이 땅에서의 삶을 마치고, 천국에서 하나님 아버지의 품에 안겨서 시작하는 새로운 삶을 의미하기 때문입니다. 세 분 모두, 이 사실을 확신하셨기에, “빨리 죽고 싶다”고 말씀하지 않으셨고 “빨리 주님의 품에 안기고 싶다”고 믿음의 고백을 어려운 시간 속에서 하셨었습니다. 사도바울의 고백처럼 말이지요. “우리가 담대하여 원하는 바는 차라리 몸을 떠나 주와 함께 있는 그것이라”(고후 5:8). 이러한 고백이 사실(진실)이 되게 하시려고 예수님께서 고난을 당하셨습니다!
Since last January, three of our beloved church members—esteemed Christians before us who had endured seasons of great urgency—have been called home by God the Father, one by one each month, to rest in His eternal embrace. While the world generally refers to the conclusion of a person’s life as “death,” we as Christians use the term Socheon, which means a “Heavenly Calling”—or more precisely, being called by God. The difference in meaning between these two terms is greater than the distance between heaven and earth. The former (death) carries a strong sense of a final “end,” implying that one’s life on this earth has simply ceased or finished. However, the latter (Socheon) signifies a new state or a new stage. It means the beginning of a new life, resting in the arms of the Father in heaven after concluding one’s journey on earth. Because all three of them were firm in this conviction, they never said, “I want to die quickly.” Instead, even amidst their difficult times, they made a confession of faith: “I desire to be in the arms of the Lord soon.” This mirrors the confession of the Apostle Paul: “Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord”(2 Cor. 5:8 ESV). And it was to make this confession a reality and truth that our Lord Jesus Christ endured His suffering!
