불과 11일 만에, 또 한 분의 사랑하는 교우를 먼저 예수 그리스도의 품에 안겨드린 후, 무겁고 힘든 마음을 어찌할 수 없어서, 하나님 아버지 앞에 무릎을 꿇었습니다. 여러분들은 어떠셨습니까? 만일 성삼위 하나님의 “존재와 능력과 권능”이, “하나님의 자녀를 이 땅에서 건강하게 장수하게 하신다”는 한 가지 사실로 증명된다면, 우리는 이러한 상황을 이해할 수 없을 것입니다. 그런데, 감사한 것은 성삼위 하나님께서는 그것으로 하나님을 증명하지 않으신다는 사실입니다. 오히려, 범죄한 인류에 “죽음”이라는 한계를 주시고, 그 “죽음에서 살리시는 구원”을 통해서, 증명하십니다. 즉, “우리를 건강하게 장수하게 하신다”는 이야기보다, 하나님 아버지의 사랑과 예수님의 십자가와 부활로 이루신 “죽음에서 살리시는 구원”에, 성령님의 도우심으로, 우리가 견고하게 세워졌고, 이 땅에 잠시 머물다가, 하나님의 부르심을 따라 우리의 영원한 본향인 천국에 들어간다는 사실이 훨씬 더 설득력이 있고 위로와 격려가 됩니다. 그래서, 우리가 이 놀라운 구원의 은혜 안에 있음에 감사하고, 시간의 차이가 있지만, 이분들을 다시 만난다는 변하지 않는 사실에 감사함으로, 하나님께서 오늘 우리에게 주신 삶의 여정을 성삼위 하나님을 기도로 의지하면서 걷습니다.

Just after eleven days, we entrusted another beloved member of our congregation into the arms of Jesus Christ. Then, I found myself kneeling before God the Father, unable to lift the heavy, painful weight from my heart. How about you? If the “existence, capacity, and power” of the Triune God were proven solely by the single fact that He “grants His children a long and healthy life on this earth,” we would not be able to understand our current situation. However, what I am thankful for is that the Triune God does not prove Himself through that alone. Rather, He proves Himself by setting a limit of “death” upon sinful humanity and providing “salvation from death.” In other words, rather than focusing on the narrative of “making us live long and healthy,” it is far more persuasive, comforting, and encouraging to believe that we are firmly established—with the help of the Holy Spirit—in the “salvation from death” accomplished by the love of Father God and the cross and resurrection of Jesus; and we stay on this earth briefly before entering heaven, our eternal home, in response to God’s call. Therefore, we are thankful that we are within this amazing grace of salvation, and grateful for the unchangeable fact that, though there is a difference in timing, we will also be called home to the Lord one day and meet them again in heaven. Thus, we walk the journey of life that God has given us today, relying on the Triune God through prayer.
