Based on an idea from one of our church members, I submitted a request to Google Headquarters to extend the road corresponding to our church address all the way to our parking lot. Thankfully, the update was approved. Now, when searching for directions to our church on Google Maps, visitors are guided directly into the parking lot rather than to the back of the building. First-time visitors can now easily find their way to our church without any confusion. Reflecting on this process, I began to think about what it means to redirect a way—one that may be familiar yet wrong—onto the right way. That process is not easy, and at times it seems impossible. However, it is necessary to make the bold attempt, and sometimes, as in this case, we are blessed with wonderful results. I believe our life journey is similar. Turning away from a familiar yet wrong way to step onto the right way is not easy, but through intentional effort, we can find ourselves standing on the right way. The same holds true for switching from the wrong way to the right way when pursuing “salvation”—the most important journey in our one and only life. What fills us with gratitude is that this did not occur by our own efforts, but by the incomprehensible grace of the Triune God. Through faith in Jesus, we are now permanently established in “Jesus”—the Way of salvation that was once hidden from our eyes. (“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’”(Jn. 14:6 ESV)).
