맑은 날이라도 기온이 많이 낮거나 높으면 야외에 나오기 쉽지 않습니다. 맑고 기온이 적당한 날이라도 바람이 심하게 불면 야외에 나오기 쉽지 않습니다. 반면에, 오늘처럼 맑은 날, 적당한 기온, 선선한 바람 속에 야외에 나오는 것은 비교적 쉽습니다. 그런데, 이렇게 모든 조건이 맞는 날이라고 해도, 우리의 몸과 마음이 큰 어려움 속에 있다면, 야외에 나오는 것이 불편하고 어려울 것입니다. 그런데, 우리는 대부분 이러한 어려운 일들 속에서 매일의 삶을 살아갑니다. 그래서, 우리는 불편함과 어려움 속에 이 자리에 있을 가능성이 큽니다. 만일 우리가, 쉽지 않게 모인 이 예배의 자리에서, 어떻게든지 이러한 어려움을 다 잊고, “잠시의 기분전환”을 하려고 한다면, 허무하고 허전하고 허탈할 것입니다. 그런데, 만일 우리가, 어떠한 상황에도 우리를 결코 놓지 않으시고(롬 8:38~39) 돌보시고 책임지시며 지키시는, 성삼위 하나님께 예배하며, 삶의 어려움을 맡기고, 도우시는 은혜를 구하려고 이 자리에 있다면, 야외의 조건과 우리의 삶의 상황이 최악이라고 할지라도, 우리는 충실하고 든든하고 충만할 것입니다. “여호와는 선하시며 환난 날에 산성이시라 그는 자기에게 피하는 자들을 아시느니라”(나훔 1:7).
Even on a clear day, it is not easy to step outside if the temperature is too low or too high. And even on a clear day with a mild temperature, it is still difficult to venture outdoors if the wind blows severely. Coming outside on a day like today—with clear skies, a perfect temperature, and a refreshing breeze—is relatively easy. However, even on a day when all these physical conditions are perfectly met, if our hearts and bodies are burdened with great difficulties, stepping outside would still feel uncomfortable and challenging. Most of us live our daily lives in the midst of these very hardships. Therefore, there is a high probability that many of us are sitting here today carrying discomfort and heavy hearts. If we came to this place of worship—which was by no means an easy gathering—simply to forget our troubles somehow and seek a “fleeting distraction,” we would only end up feeling empty, hollow, and devastated. But what if we are here for a different reason? What if we are here to worship the Triune God, who never lets go of us under any circumstances (Romans 8:38–39) but instead cares for us, takes responsibility for us, and protects us? What if we are here to lay down the burdens of our lives before Him and seek His helping grace? If that is our purpose, then even if the outdoor conditions and our life circumstances were at their absolute worst, we would be left feeling fulfilled, secure, and abundant. “The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him” (Nah. 1:7)
