우리는 살아가면서 다양한 계획을 세웁니다. 아울러, 세운 계획을 최선으로 준비하고 최선을 다해 이루려고 노력하고 실행합니다. 어떠한 경우에는 그 계획과 준비와 노력과 실행의 결과가 원래 뜻하고 원하는 바대로 이루어집니다. 그런데, 다른 경우에는 그 계획과 준비와 노력과 실행의 결과가 원래 뜻하고 원하는 바와는 정반대로 또는다르게 이루어집니다. 예수 그리스도 밖에 있으신 분들은 그러한 상황을 설명하는 도구로, “운”이나 “재수”를 사용합니다. 그리고 그 “운”과 “재수”는 사람이 어찌할 수 없는 영역이라고 생각합니다. 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 우리는 그것을 “하나님의 섭리” 또는 “하나님의 뜻”이라고 이해합니다. 우리의 뜻이 아니라, 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 하나님의 뜻이 우리의 삶의 계획 가운데 주관하시고 다스리시는 것이지요. 이번 주일에는 2026년도 “제1차 한가족 환영회”를 계획하였고, 이어서 “제 1 차 섬김이세미나”를 계획하였었습니다. 그런데, 눈폭풍이 몰려와서, 그 모든 계획은 진행되지 못하고 연기되었습니다. 이러한 경험이 이루어질 때마다 우리는, 변함없이 우리의 계획에 선하신 은혜를 베푸시고 인도하시는 전능하신 성삼위 하나님을 고백하게 됩니다(잠언 16장 9절, “사람이 마음으로 자기의 길을 계획할지라도 그의 걸음을 인도하시는 이는 여호와시니라”).

In our journey through life, we make various plans. We prepare for them with our best efforts and strive to execute them with all our heart. In some cases, the results of our planning, preparation, and hard work align perfectly with our original intentions and desires. In other cases, however, the outcome turns out quite differently—or even the exact opposite—of what we had intended. Those who are outside of Jesus Christ often use terms like “luck” or “good fortune” to explain such situations, believing that these are realms beyond human control. However, we who are in Jesus Christ understand this as “the Providence of God” or “the Will of God” It is not our own will, but rather the good, pleasing, and perfect Will of God that governs and reigns over the plans of our lives. This Lord’s Day, we had planned to hold the first “One Family Welcome Ceremony” of 2026, followed by our first “Servant Seminar.” Yet, with the arrival of the snowstorm, all those plans are not proceeded but postponed. Whenever we encounter such experiences, we are reminded to unfailingly confess our faith in the Almighty Triune God, who bestows His good grace upon our plans and guides us. As Proverbs 16:9 says: “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps (ESV)”
