어떤 사람은 삶이 고통이며 저주라서 죽는 것이 낫다고 말합니다. 어떤 사람은 삶이 복이며 감사한 일이라고 말합니다. 무엇이 진실일까요? 둘 다 진실입니다.

삶의 상황과 환경이 이러한 서로 다른 평가를 만들어 냅니다. 그런데, 어떤 사람은 이러한 삶의 상황과 환경과 관계없이 삶의 의미를 긍정적으로 말하고 하고 반대로 부정적으로 말하기도 합니다. 그래서, 우리가 볼 때, 행복할 것 같은 사람이 스스로 목숨을 끊거나 불행할 것 같은 사람이 행복하게 사는 것이지요. 즉, 사람의 마음이 상황과 환경보다 더 중요한 것입니다. 이 “사람의 마음”은 일반적인 의미에서는 이 세상의 모든 사람이 가지고 있는 것이고 그래서, 그 마음을 올바르게 가져야 삶을 긍정적으로 행복하게 살 수 있다고 말하는 것입니다. 옳습니다. 그러나, 그리스도인에게는 그것과는 차원이 다른 마음이 있습니다. “우리가 주인인 마음”이 아니라, “성삼위 하나님께서주인이신 마음”입니다. 우리가 만들고 고쳐먹는 마음이 아니라, 성삼위 하나님께서 우리 안에 정한 마음을 창조하시고 정직한 영을 새롭게 하시는 마음입니다(시 51:10). 그래서, 우리 안에 연합하여 동행하시는 예수님 덕분에 오늘을 사는 삶의 의미가 있는 것입니다. 우리가 성삼위 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 삶의 자리에 있을 때, 상황과 환경에 관계없이 가장 복된 삶을 사는 것입니다.

Some say that life is pain and a curse, so it is better to die. Others say that life is a blessing and something to be grateful for. Which is the truth? The answer is that both are true. It is the situations and environments of life that produce these different evaluations. However, some people speak of the meaning of life positively regardless of their circumstances, while others speak of it negatively. That is why we see people who seem happy taking their own lives, while those who seem miserable live happily. In other words, the human heart is more important than the situation or the environment. In a general sense, every person in the world possesses this “heart,” and it is said that one must have the right heart to live a positive and happy life. This is correct. However, for Christians, there is a heart on an entirely different dimension. It is not a heart where ‘we are the masters,’ but a heart where ‘the Triune God is the Master.’ It is not a heart that we create or simply resolve to change on our own; rather, it is the heart in which the Triune God creates a pure heart and renews a sincere spirit within us (Psalm 51:10). Therefore, our lives today have meaning because of Jesus, who has been united with us and has walked with us. When we remain in the place of life that pleases the Triune God, we are living the most blessed life, regardless of our situation or environment.
